Не то чтобы я имел какие-то основания для симпатий к мистеру Обаме. Но сейчас у него есть одно громадное достоинство, которое затмевает все его недостатки. Достоинство это состоит в том, что он не Ромни.

Ведь что мы имеем на данный момент? Реакция наступает по всем фронтам, зима близко. И тут в президенты США ВНЕЗАПНО баллотируется такой гнидогадоид, на фоне которого даже Рейган и оба Буша выглядят левыми.

Он ведь мог победить, вполне мог. И это была бы не просто перемена хозяина в Белом доме - это был бы качественный рывок в том направлении, которое задали в своё время Тэтчер и вышеупомянутый Рейган. И одновременно крах любого протеста против этой линии - тех же оккупаев, например.

Но американцы - нация в целом консервативная - сказали: "Спасибо, нет". Слабенький повод для оптимизма, но по нынешним временам нужно радоваться и такому.

Ну, мне сложно было догадаться, что вы имеете в виду войну Израиля и Ирана. (Война США и Ирана это, всё же, нечто из области фантастики.)

Обама же за свое первое президентство вроде даже ни разу не ездил в гости к Биби. Нет?

At the time, Obama declared America a friend of Israel and said we "must always stand up for Israel's right to defend itself."

But Romney’s ad specified that Obama has not been to Israel "as president," and that assertion is correct.

As it turns out, that’s not unusual.

Our colleagues at the Washington Post’s Fact-Checker column delved into the archives of the historian’s office at the U.S. State Department. According to those records, seven of the last 11 presidents (dating back to Harry Truman who was in the White House when Israel was established) never visited Israel.

Я плохо понимаю, при чем тут Израиль, и в чем там отличие между Ромни и Обамой (помимо того, что евангелики и неоконы к Израилю испытывают большие симпатии, в то время как евреи традиционно голосуют за демократов), но если это для вас так важно, чтобы президент США не посещал Израиль, то путь так оно и будет...

Впрочем, делать из слов одного кандидата о другом кандидате выводы о разнице между кандидатами тоже нужно с некоторой осторожностью. Тем более - в вопросах внешней политики, поскольку реальная внешняя политика республиканцев и демократов, в отличие от внутренней, одна и та же.

(Я, кстати, не утверждаю, что между Обамой и Ромни вообще нет никакой разницы. Я просто хотел сказать, что на фоне прочих республиканцев, Ромни от Обамы отличается не столь заметно.)
